Cuadernos de Ikusmira is the academic journal of Ikusmira. It publishes peer-reviewed articles in the social sciences and humanities, in open access, with no fees for authors or readers, and with a DOI for every version of every article. Scope
Social sciences and humanities, with a preference for what the board can genuinely judge: applied economics, social statistics, sociology, encyclopaedic lexicography, and the neighbouring fields its members command. A narrow, declared scope can be defended; a broad one invites what cannot be reviewed.
The journal accepts research articles, review articles, methodological notes and editorials. Publication languages are Spanish, Basque and English. Every article carries an abstract and keywords in its own language and, when the author provides one, a second abstract in English or Spanish.
Who can submit
Only authors invited by the editorial board. The invitation arrives by email and opens an account in Luma, Ikusmira’s academic editor, where the manuscript is written, submitted and reviewed. Unsolicited submissions and external PDFs are not accepted. If the journal opens submissions to any author, it will say so here, and the bottleneck will be human, not technical.
Review model
Single-blind by default: the reviewer knows the author’s identity; the author does not know the reviewer’s. If author and reviewer agree, the review may be open and the reports are published alongside the article. Double-blind review is deliberately not offered: with a small board and a narrow scope, anonymising the author is theatre.
Every research article is assessed by at least two reviewers external to the board or, if they are members, unconnected to the manuscript. Editorials and notes are reviewed by the handling editor and, when the coordinating editor is the author, by a guest editor; in that case the reports are published.
What is reviewed is a frozen snapshot of the manuscript, not the live document. The reviewer never enters the collaborative editor: they cannot see who is editing or when, and an author’s edit mid-review cannot turn the report into a comment on a text that no longer exists.
Process and timelines
- Submission. The author submits from Luma. Submission requires a competing-interests statement, an AI-use statement and an automatic citation check: no reference that fails to resolve to a real record, no citation without a reference, no reference without a citation.
- Desk review (up to 10 days). The handling editor decides whether the manuscript enters review or is desk-rejected, with a written reason.
- Review (up to 6 weeks per round). Reviewers deliver a report with comments anchored to the text and a recommendation: accept, minor revisions, major revisions or reject.
- Decision. The editor writes a decision letter based on the reports. If revisions are requested, the author resubmits a new version with a response to reviewers and a new round begins.
- Production and publication. After acceptance the version of record is produced: HTML, PDF and metadata. The PDF is deposited in Zenodo, which issues the DOI, and the article is published at
ikusmira.org/revista/.
Authors may withdraw a manuscript at any time before acceptance. Every transition is recorded with its date, and every article publishes its dates of receipt, acceptance and publication, the number of rounds and the number of reviewers.
Frequency
Continuous publication: each article is published when it is ready. There are no issues or volumes. The listing is grouped by year.
Access, licence and fees
All content is immediately open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. Authors retain copyright. There are no submission, publication or reading fees, and there will be none: the journal is funded by Ikusmira with the same means as the rest of the site, described in the general editorial policy.
Identifiers and indexing
Every version of every article receives a Zenodo DOI, and all versions share a concept DOI. Pages carry the citation_* metadata read by Google Scholar and ScholarlyArticle structured data; the repository can be harvested over OAI-PMH. The ISSN application is in progress; until it arrives the ISSN field in the metadata stays empty, and saying so here beats making one up.
Corrections, errata and retractions
A correction that does not alter results or conclusions is applied to the text and noted at the foot of the article with its date. An erratum that does alter them produces a new version with a new DOI under the same concept DOI; the previous version remains accessible and linked. A retraction is decided by the board, published with its reasons, and the article stays online marked as retracted: it is never deleted. Anyone may request a correction through the contact page; the author is consulted before it is applied.
Preservation and archiving
The version of record lives in two places that do not depend on the same server: ikusmira.org (static pages, versioned in a git repository that proves when each item was published) and Zenodo, CERN’s repository, which is also the long-term archival copy. Should the journal cease publication, everything published would remain accessible and citable in both.
Privacy of authors and reviewers
Author and reviewer data (name, email, affiliation, ORCID, reports) are processed only to manage the manuscript. Review reports are not published without the agreement of both author and reviewer. Details are in the privacy policy.
