These guidelines apply to any manuscript submitted to Cuadernos de Ikusmira. Submission is by invitation only and happens inside Luma, Ikusmira’s academic editor. Normas para autores en castellano.
What the journal publishes
- Research article: 4,000 to 10,000 words, with a question, method, results and discussion.
- Review article: up to 12,000 words; a state of the art with explicit search criteria.
- Note: up to 3,000 words; one result, one method or one replication.
- Editorial: commissioned by the board only.
Limits exclude the abstract, references and appendices. Languages: Spanish, Basque or English.
Structure
- Title, clear, with a subtitle if needed. No acronyms only the author knows.
- Authors with full name, institutional affiliation and ORCID. An ORCID is mandatory for authors of research and review articles (registration is free at orcid.org). One corresponding author is named.
- Abstract of 150 to 250 words and 4 to 8 keywords. A second abstract in Spanish (or in English if the article is in another language) is welcome: it helps the work travel across language communities.
- Body with numbered sections. Tables and figures numbered and captioned. Formulae in LaTeX.
- Statements: competing interests, funding, data availability and use of artificial intelligence. All four are published with the article, including when the answer is “none”.

Citations and references
The bibliography is managed in Luma, which only admits records that exist in one of the indexes it queries (Crossref, OpenAlex, arXiv, Semantic Scholar, Europe PMC, DOAJ, HAL, DBLP) or hand-added references with a verifiable identifier. A manuscript cannot be submitted with a reference that does not resolve to a real record, with a citation to a reference that is not in the list, or with a reference that is never cited in the body: the check is automatic and blocks submission.
The output style (APA 7th, Chicago author-date, IEEE or Vancouver) is produced by Luma; authors do not type it by hand. References are published with their DOI, and the article links them in its structured data and in the OAI-PMH harvest.
Figures, tables and data
Figures at print resolution, with caption and source. Diagrams may be written in Mermaid inside Luma and are rasterised in production. Data and code underpinning results must be deposited in a repository with a persistent identifier (Zenodo, OSF, an institutional repository) or, if they cannot be shared, the availability statement must say why.
Use of artificial intelligence
AI tools may be used for literature search, drafting, copy-editing and translation, under two conditions: declare it (which tool, at which stage) and answer for the content. A model cannot be listed as an author. The ethics and AI policy develops this.
How to submit
- The coordinating editor invites the author by email; the invitation opens the Luma account.
- The author writes the manuscript in Luma, alone or with co-authors.
- Before submission, Luma checks the citations and asks for the statements. With everything green, the Submit to the journal button freezes a version and hands it to the board.
- The author follows the submission from Luma: desk review, under review, revisions requested, accepted, published.
- When revisions are requested, the author edits the manuscript, writes a response to reviewers and resubmits.
After acceptance
The version of record is produced from the accepted manuscript without further author intervention: the journal typesets the PDF, deposits it in Zenodo, obtains the DOI and publishes. The author receives the URL and the DOI. Once published, changes follow the corrections policy.
Rights
Authors retain copyright and publish under CC BY 4.0. They may deposit the published version in any repository or on their personal page from day one, without embargo or permission. Submitting to Cuadernos means declaring that the manuscript is original, is not under evaluation elsewhere and that all signatories have approved the submission.
